A Shropshire firm is continuing to raise awareness and reduce the stigma around mental health through its dedicated workplace programme.
As part of Mental Health Awareness Week, Aico is championing the Take 10 Minutes to Talk initiative that was launched by the Electrial Industries Charity (EIC) to encourage colleagues to talk about their mental health.
Mental health awareness is an important subject for Aico and the company strives to support its employees with a dedicated Mental Health Programme.
The firm has four staff members who are trained mental health first aiders who provide support for colleagues and who deliver monthly presentations discussing topics such as financial well-being, caring for elderly relatives, and staying healthy.
The Mental Health Programme at Aico also encourages open conversations surrounding mental health, demonstrating the progressive , positive culture of the workplace.
In a recent presentation, technical adviser Owen Terry shared his own mental health experiences and the benefits of speaking to someone.
"Talking openly about my experiences to colleagues has been a massive benefit and has helped me to overcome what I have been through and get over that last hurdle. Being able to challenge the stigma behind men's mental health, showing that men also do suffer and that speaking to someone, either a friend, family or work colleague can be life-changing."
Aico has also signed the Mental Health Charter created by Shropshire Chamber of Commerce and Merulae - an organisation specialising in training, counselling and psycotherapy.
